Sankalpa Dragonfly

Sankalpa Dragonfly

Every once in a while, something will move us. It starts with a deep stirring and if we have the curiosity to follow that thread, we can bring it to fruition.

Almost a year ago I found a wonderful oak stump on the side of the road that when carved into slices... were heart shaped. I knew that these hearts needed a special place in my art. They are the foundation of my dragonfly.

I have been working on my Sankalpa dragonfly for over six months. It’s been difficult to get her to come together. The angles, the lines, the pieces that I needed. But tonight she was finally born.

The dragonfly represents transformation... our hearts... our minds... and our bodies.

Sankalpa (Sanskrit: संकल्प) means an intention formed by the heart and mind -- a solemn vow, determination, or will. In practical terms a Sankalpa means a one-pointed resolve to focus both psychologically and philosophically on a specific goal.

So this piece represents bringing your transformation forward from your heart and finding your dharma...your best self...your gift and sharing it with the world.

Here are the specifics on the art piece.

Nose to tail 49 inches
Wingspan 47 inches
Heart tree slice 17 inches wide by 18 inches tall
Wing height 38 inches

This piece will be sold at Seaside Framing & Gallery across from Food Lion on the island next week. If you are interested in purchasing it prior to that, please private message me and you’re welcome to come by and look at it. Otherwise we will take it to the shop and the price will increase as a commissioned piece.
