Micki's Story....

I began yoga 13 years ago because I could find no other relief from my aching body. My back hurt constantly, my feet. I didn’t sleep and I felt tired all the time. I started group classes and was immediately in love, but as my practice developed and was able to spend less time “watching” my teacher, I began to notice my peers on the mats beside me.

Not in an overly critical way of them or myself, but more out of empathy and compassion. I understood this look I was seeing on their faces. I could relate to their feeling of being “lost” in class because I didn’t understand a pose or always feeling a “breath” behind because I was trying to figure out where one or another appendage goes.

In most yoga classes, teachers “lead” a class. A list of poses called one after another. And while I was trying to decipher this odd language they were using, I always seemed to be a step behind the rest. No one explained “what” pranayamawas or let alone why I needed it in my life. I was spoken to as if I should already know the poses.

My teachers weren’t “teaching”,

they were simply doing yoga and expecting me to follow.

In the seven years that I have owned my own studio, I have had literally hundreds of people tell me…

”I tried yoga once but I got hurt.

I had no idea what the teacher was doing.

I was so confused.

______ pose hurt really bad.”

And so I wondered…

how many people never went back after that first class.

How many yet still, are scared to try?

I knew every single person could find healing on the yoga mat, but a skilled instructor was needed in order to appropriately formulate a plan for them. I wanted to provide a safe place for  students to build confidence in a nurturing environment.

I began to offer private sessions

and the feedback I was receiving was amazing.

Ashtanga Led Primary Series

Our Led Primary Series is a hatha yoga system, derived from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The essence of this system: the asanas are accompanied with continuous Ujjayi breathing, energetic bonds or locks called bandhas and visual focusing on a gazing point called drishti. The asanas are connected with the Vinyasa exercise elements. The heat which originates through this process makes the body more flexible.

Yin/Yang Yoga

We begin with the Yin portion of our practice focusing on a release of connective tissues as we surrender into postures for longer periods of time to reach the deeper connective tissues of the joints, increasing the supply of fluids to them, making them less dense and enabling them to stretch appropriately. As a result, we become more flexible.

Then we move into the Yang, a short, gentle practice that stimulates the muscles in the body, encouraging strength and physical health. Yang yoga involves flowing types of movements, joining one pose to another by a continuous movement sequence called a Vinyasa. By utilizing muscle contractions and increasing blood flow, we are able to integrate this openness and awareness we have found in our Yin Yoga into a sense of steadiness and alignment in our Vinyasa practice.

Find comfort and contentment as we perform a complex practice of PNF stretching then passively held floor based poses. Yin works deep into the connective tissues with long holds to reach deeper into the joints, increasing the supply of fluids to them, making them less dense and enabling them to stretch appropriately. Props available for a more relaxed comfort.
